As Tech Valley continues to grow, there’s an increasing demand for a workforce of qualified individuals with an education and/or experience in STEM.
The public sector listened to the workforce challenges the local companies were facing and responded with an innovative solution with the relocation of Tech Valley High School and its collaboration with SUNY Poly Colleges of Nanoscale, Science and Engineering to keep New York at the forefront of emerging technologies.
Tech Valley High School relocated from it’s Rensselaer, New York location to CNSE’s NanoTech Complex in September of 2014. In a design build collaboration with Whiting-Turner, Martin Electric participated as the electrical contractor of choice to design, manage, and build 22,000 sqft of state of the art educational classrooms and high-tech laboratories. The base build included power and distribution; power metering; fire alarm; security; communications; and fiber networking. In addition, Martin Electric worked closely with the local utility company in the relocation of site wide utilities.
The value Martin Electric brought to the team began in the project design and development stages. TVHS was to be ready for the 2014-2015 academic year. With a tight timeline, Martin Electric was able to streamline the design process to ensure the project was completed on time and within budget.
Tech Valley High School is a four-year technical, public high school which provides a modernized twist on traditional learning with the focus on a project-based learning to not only prepare students to be successful in college but also in tomorrow’s workforce. Through its collaboration with CNSE, local businesses and government, Tech Valley High School is creating a pipeline of future innovators in the STEM space.
